Glossary

TermWhat it means
Allowance (Handicap Percentage)The share of each golfer’s handicap used in scoring. 100% is the full handicap.
Best BallEach golfer plays their own ball. The team’s score on a hole is the lowest individual score.
ContestOne week’s competition. The scorecard is titled “Contest Scorecard”.
DivisionThe outermost group in a league — for example, by night.
FlightA smaller group inside a division (or across the league) — for example, by handicap.
Floating LeagueEach team plays once per session but chooses when.
Flex League PassTeams buy a number of rounds and spend them on the sessions they choose.
Gross / NetGross is the raw score. Net is the score after handicap strokes.
Held spotA seat on a team that’s paid for but not yet given to a named golfer.
Indexed to lowEveryone’s handicap is reduced by the lowest handicap among that week’s players, so the best golfer plays at scratch.
Initial HCPThe starting handicap you enter for a golfer. It shows as Set by an operator, and counts as two rounds in their calculated handicap until they have 10 of their own.
OrganizerThe team member your club contacts about payment: the first named golfer on the team.
OverrideA handicap you set by hand for one week. It wins over everything else that week.
Rest-of-season adjustmentA handicap you set for every week a golfer hasn’t played yet, with an optional reason. Shown as Adjusted.
Playing handicapThe handicap actually used on the scorecard, after indexing, the 9-hole adjustment and the percentage.
PotThe money collected for a side game such as skins, shared among winners.
SeasoningThe first weeks of a league, when every golfer plays gross — either the league’s first N sessions or each golfer’s own first N rounds.
Entered by the golferA starting handicap the golfer gave when they registered. A starting handicap you set wins over it.
Session / WeekOne playing date in the league.
SkinsA side game where a golfer wins a hole outright; by default, tied holes roll the value to the next hole.
Registration LinkThe web address golfers use to sign up for your league.
