Build your league

Create a league

The seven-step league wizard, what each choice does, and which defaults to check before you click Create League.

9 min read Checked against the Hub, September 2026

Before you start

The wizard moves fast. Settle these questions first, so you’re not deciding mid-setup — a few of them can’t be changed later.

DecideWhy it matters
How do teams play?Everyone at the same time, a recurring slot per team, any time during a period, or a pass of rounds. It shapes the schedule and is fixed once the league is created.
How many golfers per team?Locked once any team is registered. To change it later you would have to remove every team.
Contest and scoring formatField competition or head to head; best ball or another scoring format. Locked for a week once scores are entered for it.
HandicapsOn or off, what percentage to use, and whether to index to the lowest handicap. See Handicaps.
Start date, number of weeks, day and timeSets every session date. The day of the week comes from the start date.
Entry feeCharged once per team, not per golfer.
Side gamesSkins, Closest to the Pin or Longest Putt. Add them in the wizard or on the Side Games tab — but not once the season has started.

Create a league, step by step

Leagues Create League

You can also start from Dashboard → Quick Actions → Create New League.

Step 1: Creation Method

Choose Create Manually to set every option yourself. Create from Template starts from a saved set of settings; if your venue has none, the Hub says “No templates available yet” — just choose Create Manually.

Step 2: Details

The longest step. First choose the Venue the league runs at, then work down: league information, how teams play, format and scoring (with handicaps), then standings and league points.

FieldWhat it does
League NameRequired. Golfers see it everywhere, so include the season — for example “Monday Night Sim League – Fall 2026”.
VisibilityPublic (the default): any golfer can join, and the league is listed on your public league page. Private: anyone with the link can join, but it isn’t listed. Invite Only: only golfers you invite.
Minimum Teams / Maximum TeamsOptional limits on how many teams can sign up.
League Contact EmailShown on registration confirmation emails. Leave blank to use your venue’s contact email.
Allow golfers to hold a spotA golfer can pay for a seat on their team and name the player later. You can always hold a spot yourself when you register a team.

How do teams play their sessions?

OptionHow it works
Everyone at the same timeOne start time each session. Teams show up and play together — the classic weekly night. This is the default.
Each team picks a recurring timeYou publish the days, bays and tee times available; each team claims one and keeps it all season. Tick Also offer Floating to let some teams play without a fixed time.
Any time during the session (floating league)Every team plays once per session but chooses when. A session can run a week, two weeks or any period you set.
Teams buy rounds and choose their sessions (flex league pass)Teams pay for a number of rounds and spend them on whichever sessions they like. They can skip sessions or play the same one more than once.

Format and scoring

FieldWhat it does
Play ModeOn Course or Simulator.
Contest FormatDefault is Tournament (vs Field): every team competes against the full field, and standings are based on score. The drop-down has other formats, such as head to head.
Scoring FormatDefault is Best Ball Stroke: each player plays their own ball, and the team score on each hole is the lowest individual score.
Points PlayOptional points-based scoring on top of the round. Leave it as None to score strokes only.
HolesHow many holes each session is — for example 18.
Simulator Time (minutes)Time allowed per session on the simulator.
Players Per TeamHow many golfers make up one team.

Handicaps

SettingWhat it does
Handicapped?Turns handicap-adjusted scoring on for this league.
Handicap PercentageThe share of each golfer’s handicap that is used. 100% means the full handicap.
Index handicaps to lowest playerReduces everyone’s handicap by the lowest handicap among that week’s players, so the best golfer plays at scratch and everyone else plays relative to them. (The wizard’s label says “on team”, but the Hub indexes against the whole week’s field — see Handicaps.)
Auto-calculate handicaps from roundsThe Hub recalculates each golfer’s and team’s handicap from their completed league rounds after every score submission. Turn it off to manage handicaps yourself with overrides and starting handicaps.
Collect handicaps at registrationAsks each golfer for their handicap while they sign up. They can skip it, and you can set it for them later.
Leaderboard ScoringWhether the leaderboard ranks Net (after handicap), Gross, or shows both (Gross & Net).
Seasoning WeeksNew golfers play gross (no handicap) for this many sessions before joining the handicapped pool. Use 0 to turn seasoning off.

Standings and league points

SettingWhat it does
Ranked onWhat the season table is ranked on: league points, cumulative strokes or cumulative score to par.
Enable League PointsAwards points to teams each session for the overall standings.
How it awardsTeams Beaten (points for each team you outscore), Placement Based, or Both.
Points per team beatenHow many points each beaten team is worth.
Gross ladderAdd positions to award points by gross placement.
Missed weekWhat a team gets for a week it doesn’t play.

Step 3: Schedule

FieldWhat it does
League Start DateThe first session.
Number of SessionsHow many weeks (or periods) the league runs. Default is 10.
Frequency“Play once every” a number of days or weeks.
League End DateWorked out for you. (For a flex league pass you set it yourself.)
Registration ClosesOptional. Leave empty to keep registration open until the league starts.

Step 4: Session Configuration

Confirm the start date and set when sessions happen. What this step asks depends on how teams play:

  • Everyone at the same time: a Session start time and Session end time (the default is 6:00–9:00 PM).
  • Any time during the session: just Session opens at.
  • Each team picks a recurring time: a grid where you lay out the days, bays and tee times teams can claim.

The Hub tells you which day this makes your league — for example “This will be a Monday league”. If that’s the wrong day, go back and change the start date.

Step 5: Side Games

Tick any extra games to run alongside the league, such as Closest to the Pin, Longest Putt and Skins. Each is copied onto every session. The list comes from the games set up for your venue; if there are none, the wizard skips this step. Entry fees and rules are set later, on the league’s Side Games tab — see Side games, skins and prizes.

Step 6: Pricing

FieldWhat it does
Payment CollectionCollected using Fareway (the default): golfers pay when they register, Fareway collects the payment, and the money reaches your venue. Collected at the venue: nothing is charged online, and you record payments by hand.
League Fee per Team ($)Required. Charged once per team, not per golfer. Enter 0 for a free league.
Price DescriptionThe name golfers see for the fee — for example “League Membership”.
Pay By DateDeadline for completing payment. Defaults to the league start date.
League Hold Payment OptionOptional. Lets members pay a deposit now and the rest later. Only offered when the fee is above 0 and collected using Fareway.
Prizes & PayoutsOptional. Define the prize structure and payout type for this league.

Step 7: Confirmation

  1. Read the review page. It repeats every choice, including the Day of Week, Start Date, End Date and League Fee.
  2. Click Back to fix anything, or Create League.
  3. A green message says League created successfully. The final screen shows your Registration Link with a Copy button, plus Go to League.

After you create it

A new league needs a few more things before the first night. Tick them off as you go.

Questions people ask

Can I change how teams play after the league is created?

No. Everyone at the same time, a recurring time, a floating league or a flex league pass is fixed once the league exists. If you're unsure which fits, ask your Fareway contact before you create it.

Is the entry fee per golfer or per team?

Per team. League Fee per Team is charged once for the whole team, not per golfer. Enter 0 for a free league.

Can I add skins after the league is created?

Yes, until the season starts. Pick side games in the wizard, or add one later with Add a game on the league's Side Games tab. Once the first week has started, no new games can be added.
